Roxy

Roxy with her toy4

Whilst I had one of my dogs in to the veterinary hospital, the veterinarian told me a sad story: a lady had brought in a small dog, asking for it to be euthanized. The dog, named Roxy, was 13 years old but in good health and she was beyond friendly — she seemed to love everybody she met. A little old lady had owned the dog but was in declining health and had to go into an assisted care facility, where dogs are not permitted. The little old lady asked her daughter to take in the dog, but the daughter hates dogs and simply took Roxy to be euthanized. The veterinarian was appalled and asked that the daughter transfer ownership to her. The daughter agreed.

So now the veterinarian asked me if I knew anybody who would take in the dog. She seemed like a nice dog, and I was then and there willing to take her (I’m a real softy), but I didn’t want to commit without consulting Kathy. That night, I asked Kathy if she would consider taking Roxy after visiting her at the hospital. Kathy did so and agreed to give Roxy a home. I drove down to Jacksonville and together we adopted Roxy. That was on Friday, January 26th.

We fell in love with Roxy. She is the sweetest, most loving dog we have ever had. Our other dogs are all great, but they are dogs who love us. Sure, they love to be with us, but they’re dogs: if they hear a squirrel or a turkey, they’re gone. Roxy would rather stick close by us. She is particularly attached to me; she spends most of her time with me and is unhappy if I leave her. At night she sleeps in a little bed between Kathy and I. She snores.
